He is Risen
Dear Jesus
We give you our school. We give you all the teachers and staff who work here, we give you all the children who learn and play here as part of our parish school family. We pray our school will be place of growing, adventure and creativity. May it be a place where we love to learn and where we learn to love, a place where everyone is respected and valued, a place where the risen Christ is visible through everything that we do.
We ask all this through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Catholic Schools Week
Faith-Excellence-Service
Catholic Schools Week is a time to celebrate our shared faith, educational excellence and the importance of every student. Catholic Schools offer an educational foundation for living life to the full through the development of the student’s spiritual, intellectual, physical, moral and emotional growth.
We are well served by dedicated Priests, principals, teachers and support staff who are determined to provide a high-quality education and to accompany students on their faith and educational journeys.
Catholic Schools Week is a special time in the year when we celebrate and give thanks for Catholic Schools, especially our own school Our Lady Help of Christians Parish School. It is a time to give thanks for the faith development and wonderful learning and teaching that takes place each day in every classroom and celebrate together as a Parish School Community.

11:00am-Mother’s Day Picnic Lunch- all members of our school community are invited to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy with their family.
Engaging with Learning
As we continue striving to improve learning and teaching in our school, it is important that as a learning community we all understand the language that is being used in our classrooms. The following points, whilst simplified, highlight the current learning focus in our school that our children are experiencing each day.
1. What we are learning and why. (Learning Intention)
2. What do I need to do to be successful? (Success Criteria)
3. Bump it up Walls (Making success visble to students as to what they need to do next to improve their work. It is a visual representation of the Success Criteria)
Teacher Questions. To ensure that our chldren understand the above three points, teachers are asking students the following questions in all classrooms.
1. What are you learning? Why
2. How are you doing?
3. How do you know?
4. How can you improve?
5. Where do you go for help?
Parent Questions. As parents you can also be part of this new learning. When your child/ren come home from school, you can ask the following questions.
1. What did you learn today? (not what did you do but what did you learn)
2. How did you do?
3. What did you do if you didn't understand?
4. How can you improve on your learning?
5. What are you most proud of?
School Psychologist
On behalf of our Parish school community, I would like to introduce and welcome Miss Tamara Sheppard. Tamara will be working in our school on Thursdays and Fridays and will spent her time working closely with students and their families to support learning, wellbeing and social and emotional needs. Tamara will also work alongside class teachers to ensure we are implementing evidence based strategies in our classrooms to support our students. Congratulations on your appointment Tamara and welcome to OLHC.
Outdoor Play and Learning Space
A big thank you to Mr Jeremy Prosser (Rhett and Jethro's dad) for building us such an amazing outdoor play and learning space. It looks fantastic and the children can't wait to use it.
Mrs Mac's Garden
As part of our Art and Craft Social Skills program, students have been taking care of the school gardens and enjoyed planting carrots, peas, corn, sunflowers and sweet potatoes. With the recent rain followed by the beautiful sunny weather, everything is begining to grow. We can't wait to enjoy eating what we have grown.

Please join us to commemorate Anzac Day and celebrate Mothers' Day! We look forward to sharing these events with our community Our liturgies have been prepared, and will be led by our Year 5 class and Year 4.
On Wednesday of Week 3 (5th May), we have a Pupil Free Day. The day is put aside for our staff to gather together and participate in the Lismore Proclaim Staff Day, with similar gatherings scheduled for all schools in our Diocese. The day is for our staff to participate in purposeful prayer and strengthen our commitment toward our vocation.
Over a number of years, the Lismore Diocese has looked to build a stronger Catholic Community within the Mission of Catholic schools. The theme for our day is Catholic Schools: Faith in the Future. This year also marks 200 years of Catholic education in Australia and our day will feature a range of speakers on this theme. Our staff will then be invited to consider future directions for our schools, leading to improved outcomes and experiences for our students and accompanying them to a fullness of life in Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit.
Learning & Teaching
Across our school we have been working on making learning visible through explicit Learning Intentions and Success Criteria. In writing, we have been building Bump It Up (BIU) walls with our students that show students exactly what each of our success criteria looks like in a piece of writing.
BIU walls have different levels of writing to demonstrate how the success criteria builds as students become more proficient writers. Students use the BIU walls to self reflect on their writing, to give feedback to peers and to set learning goals to improve their writing.
Each BIU wall is different and is based on the classes next steps in learning. Our students have been part of choosing what their BIU wall looks like and in primary classes, they have worked in groups to level each piece of writing. Below are the Bump it up walls in each classroom.

Anzac Day March
Anzac Day March will be proceeding as normal. Students are required to assemble at the Clyde Campbell Carpark by 8.45am on Sunday 25th April and the March will begin promptly at 9.00am.
All students are to wear Full school uniform.
Sun Safety
Now that we are able to play outside again after such a long period of rain, we have noticed an increasing number of students who have no hat for play time. Our School Sun Safe Policy requires all students to wear a hat when playing outside. If your child has lost their hat, please send them to school with any broad rimmed hat until you have the chance to purchase a new school hat. Don't forget to write their name on their hat!

Book Donations
A big thank you to the Renshaw and Stieler families for donating a big stack of books to our library. If you have any books that are in great condition that you would like to donate, please send them in.
Canteen Term 2 - 2021
Canteen is available every Friday. Orders need to made through the Flexischools App. We are lucky to have some local businesses on board supplying to the Canteen each week. Thankyou to Henry's Bakery Cafe, Subway, Mr Mozarella's Pizza and Zen Sushi. Orders need to be placed by 1.00pm each Wednesday. There are also snacks and drinks available for purchase via Flexischools app.
