Principal News
Welcome back to Term 3!
Welcome back to another term. The students have come back keen to learn and to spend time with each other. We have had a wonderful first week back and ended our week together with a beautiful liturgy celebrated by Year 2. We have another exciting term coming up with things such as NAIDOC week celebrations, our schoolwide Poetry and Public Speaking competition, the Dance Eisteddfod and all going to plan, our Year 5 Camp.
On the last day of Term 2, we farewelled Miss Emily Payne. Emily decided to step down as a classroom teacher for the remainder of the year, as she moves to the Tweed Heads area to be closer to her family and partner. This has been an extremely difficult decision for Emily to make, however, it is a decision that I have worked through with her, and together we are confident that it will not impact the learning or wellbeing of the students in her class. Mrs Elise Sheridan will replace Emily in the 1P classroom for the remainder of the school year. Welcome to the OLHC Staff Elise.
Thank you to all our parents and families who have supported the changes we have had to implement, due to the COVID-19 restrictions that are currently in place for regional NSW. As new information comes to hand, we will share any updates through the Schoolzine App and email. At this time, the current guidelines (previously communicated) will be in place until 30 July. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those in Sydney, as they face a difficult time in dealing with the pandemic and its impacts, and for the health and safety of all. NAIDOC Week 2021
Next week, we will celebrate NAIDOC Week at OLHC. It is a chance for us celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. Our students will participate in a range of activities and conclude our week with a NAIDOC Liturgy celebrating the link between Aboriginal Spirituality and the Catholic faith. Students are also asked to wear the colours of the Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander flags on Friday (see the flyer below). We look forward to sharing photos of the week, in our next newsletter.

Year 2 Liturgy - Images of God
The boys and girls in Year 2 prepared and celebrated a beautiful liturgy this afternoon. The liturgy completed their learning from last term, where they were introduced to and explored a variety of biblical images of God that tell us something of what God is like - a potter, a shepherd, a mother. Thank you to Mrs Owen and Miss Jansen for preparing the students and the liturgy. It was wonderful to see the reverence and growing confidence of the children as they shared their faith with our whole school. Well done, Year 2!
Sacrament News - Confirmation
We are hopeful that the Sacrament of Confirmation will go ahead on the 19th August, 2021 in our Parish Church. If your child is in Year 3, a note will come home next week to nominate them to recieve the Sacrament this year. If your child has missed their Confirmation and is in Year 4, Year 5 or Year 6, could you please email Mrs Hague (kristy.hague@lism.catholic.edu.au) and a form will be sent home for you to complete and return.

RENEW is a renewed approach to learning and teaching in Religious Education in our Stage 3 Classrooms. Mr Bleakley, Mrs Innes, as well as, Mr Piccoli, Mrs Rose and myself, have undertaken professional learning in programing and teaching Religious Education through project-based learning (PBL).
This semester will see both Year 5 and Year 6, trialing PBL units in Religious Education, allowing students to engage in active exploration and providing students with opportunities for voice, choice and influence over their learning and to allow students to engage in critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and to communicate effectively. We look forward to sharing some of their learning with you in the coming weeks.
Welcome to the family, Harper and Darcy
Last weekend, Harper and Darcy Stephens were welcomed into our Catholic family when they celebrated their Baptism with their family and friends. Congratulations and welcome to our Church family Harper and Darcy. We pray God blesses every step of your path as you walk in trust with Him.
Learning & Teaching
Celebrating Learning at OLHC
At the end of last term, a number of our classes met together to share their learning from the term in different Key Learning Areas. It was wonderful to see how they shared their learning, their challenges and supported each other. Our students put in a lot of effort to their presentations, projects and dioramas and it was a great opportunity for them to share with an audience and receive feedback from their peers.

2021 Athletics Carnival
On Friday 18th June, we held our annual Athletics Carnival. It was a fantasic day of fun and great sportsmanship! Congratulations to our winning house, MacKillop.

Diocesan Cross Country Representatives
Earlier in Term 2 Harvey P and Maverick J represented OLHC at the Diocesan Cross Country. They were presented with their certificates at the Week 10 Assembly last term. Congratulations boys.

Community News
Calling all 6-8 year olds! Are you interested in learning an instrument? Then this is the course for you. Over the 6 weeks you will get hands experience on a range of instruments and hear demonstrations from our inspiring tutors and students.As well as playing we will sing, move to music and be introduced to music reading.Join Rochelle Wright on Thursday afternoons from 4-5pm in term 3 at the Northern Rivers Conservatorium. Free Science Week Workshops for Students at SCU
The Australian School of Entrepreneurship (ASE) will deliver a set of ‘Youth Entrepreneurship - Innovation in Science & Technology Workshops’ in Lismore, NSW, during National Science Week.
The six workshops are open to young people aged 8 to 21 years old and the $75 cost of participation is fully subsidised by Inspiring Australia (NSW) so there is no cost for the participant, parent or school.
About the Workshops
During the workshop, participants will have learn about innovation and technology in the agriculture sector. Participants will have the opportunity to hear from agricultural leaders and present their agriculture solutions to a panel of guest judges from the agriculture industry and higher education sector.
There are six workshops over the weekend - 3 x on Saturday 14 August and 3 x on Sunday 15 August.
- 9:00am to 11:00am: 8 to 12 year old participants
- 11:30am to 1:30pm: 13 to 16 year old participants
- 2:00pm to 4:00pm: Young Adults - 17 to 21 year old participants
