Choose Kindness
Sometimes, in the heat of the moment, we can forget the impact our words and actions can have on others. It is important that we reflect on what it means to speak and act with kindness and what that may look like and sound like at home, school, sports or at work. Kindness is a constant focus at OLHC, and we are all in a privileged position as parents and teachers to model this life giving behaviour.
Kindness:
* is the way we speak to all people;
* is the way we act towards all people;
* helps us to show care, consideration and generosity to others;
* shows others how we like to be treated;
* is being friendly, smiling and using a kind voice;
* is noticing when others are sad, hurt or in trouble;
* is reacting positively to a situation even when we may not be happy ourselves;
Thank You
I would personally like to thank all of our parent community for the ongoing support of your children, our teachers and myself during this week of lockdown. I am extremely proud of our entire school community for the way in which we have responded so quickly and effectively and transitioned to Blended Learning.
I have heard that some of our families are sharing their child’s learning with friends and families from other schools in our local community and I am very grateful that you have done this. No matter what school our children go to, we are all here to support them the best we can.
We are still in lockdown until 12:01am, Tuesday 17th August, and this means that Blended Learning will occur on Monday 16th August also. I am confident that we will have further communication from our Catholic Schools Office over the weekend or on Monday and I will provide all parents and guardians with this information as soon as I receive it.
Thank you to all parents who have been able to support their children from home. We are open for students of essential workers and have had approximately 20-30 students at school each day who are being supervised by a small number of staff members. Please be reminded that students should not be attending school if parents are at home. I understand that it is not always easy to teach our own children, however, we greatly appreciate all your efforts as we strive to keep our community safe during this time.

THANK YOU for the generous support you have shown in the first week of our Suitcases of Love drive for CASPA Family Services. Many suitcases have already been donated and some classes have more than what was listed on their donation list, including being able to fill extra suitcases. We have also recieved donations from local businesses keen to support this wonderful community service. The Suitcases of Love drive will continue until the end of Week 9.

On Monday we were to celebrate the feast of St Mary of the Cross, the first Australian saint. Unfortunately, COVID had other plans! In this time of uncertainty let us think like Mary, and keep all those who are adversely affected by the current lockdown in our thoughts and prayers.
Mary was a person of action and didn’t wait for someone to knock on her door. She loved the poor and worked hard to care for them in any way that she could. Mary shows us how to open our eyes and ears, our hearts, and our minds to the needs of others. She shows us how to serve others with kindness, love and understanding.

Year 3
Last week, Year 3 were reading a story called Fox and were learning about how to gather facts to compose their own informative story.
Year 4
Year 4 have also been reading the story Fox and have been exploring how to describe a characters personality.
Year 5
Last week, Year 5 had a maths challenge to time themselves running 100m using a stopwatch, compare to the times of the Olympic finalists and then order their times from fastest to slowest. Year 5 take about double the amount of time or more than the Olympic athletes to run 100m!
Year 6
Last week, Year 6 built rockets for their learning on aerodynamics and forces in Science and technology. They also continued to work on creating Treasure Maps when learning about position, compass directions and location in Maths. Part of this also involved creating origami boxes to hide their treasure in.
And then there was lockdown!
This week, we had to transition once again to blended learning. The students learning at home have been putting in a great deal of effort to complete their learning tasks. Those who have to be at school have also been working hard to complete their learning and have been helping to do some jobs around our school.
We would like to congratulate all students for the way they have taken on the challenge of blended learning.
