Catholic Schools Week is a time to celebrate our shared faith, educational excellence and the importance of every student. Catholic Schools offer an educational foundation for living life to the full through the development of the student’s spiritual, intellectual, physical, moral and emotional growth.
We are well served by dedicated priests, principals, teachers and support staff who are determined to provide a high-quality education and to accompany students on their faith and educational journeys.
Catholic Schools Week is a special time in the year when we celebrate and give thanks for Catholic Schools, especially our own school Our Lady Help of Christians Primary School. It is a time to give thanks for the wonderful learning and teaching that takes place each day in every classroom and celebrate together as a Parish School Community.
Mary our Mother, Our Lady Help of Christians, We pray that you watch over our parish school community here in South Lismore.
May we continue to work in the spirit of the Presentation Sisters and the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart whose traditions shaped our school.
We pray that you will guide us to make our school a more peaceful place where we treat each other with respect and compassion.
Give us strength to try our best and achieve our goals, to celebrate the talents God has given us.
Help us to follow the example given to us by your Son, Jesus, today and always.
We ask you this through Christ our Lord.

Catholic Schools Week Prayer
On Monday morning, we began an amazing Catholic Schools Week with prayer as a school community. We acknowledged and gave thanks for the exceptional teaching and learning that takes place each day in every classroom. We gave thanks for the gifts of those who work in our school, who create opportunities for students to grow in the care and compassion of others; and for the passion, commitment and sacrifice of our parents and carers, as we work together to continue a culture of community in our school.
We prayed that we never take for granted our community, and that we use our gifts wisely and responsibly as we grow in God’s image.
A huge thank you to Mrs Jeffery and our amazing Year 6 leaders for preparing and leading our prayer first thing on a Monday morning - a great achievement.

What a Term
“This is impossible”. Said Alice. “Only if you believe it to be so” said the Mad Hatter.
I would like to once again thank our incredible staff, students, parents and guardians, Father Peter and all those involved for your efforts during what can only be described as an extraordinary term. We have achieved, what many would describe as an impossible task, yet together, we have done it. Thank you!
Considering the circumstances, this term has been extremely positive and productive in so many ways. We have settled in to our new temporary home, redesigned our learning spaces, replenished our lost resources, built new classrooms, overcome a number of obstacles and all the way never lost sight of why we do what we do. We are here for our children. We have made pleasing gains in many areas and we will continue to strive to provide the best Catholic learning environment for our students and parish school community.
Students have demonstrated wonderful resilience and have been engaged in many rich and engaging learning opportunities both within and outside of the classroom. This is having a significant impact on their growth both academically and socially. I am extremely proud of our staff and the dedication and love they show to our children. We are continually challenging ourselves to be better and to do whatever it takes for our children to know that they are loved, that they belong and for them to experience success.
To our parents, I thank you for your continued support of your children, our staff and our entire parish school community. You are an extraordinary group and I am extremely grateful for the trust, loyalty and support that you give me as Principal and all our staff as we work together for our children.
I wish you all a happy and safe holiday and I look forward to next term which promises to be exciting and rich in new learning, growing as friends and loving like Jesus.

Term 3 Commences Tuesday 19th July
Term 3 will commence on Tuesday 19th July, Monday 18th is a Pupil Free Day.
On Monday 18th July, all staff will be involved in a professional learning day on the NSW English and Mathematics syllabus. This learning is essential for all teachers prior to the roll of of the new syllabus.
Before and After School Care will be available on Monday 18th July for all families needing this service. Please contact Kate Maclean on kate.maclean@lism.catholic.edu.au if you need to book your child/ren in for the day.
Mission News
Sacrament of Confirmation
Thank you for your patience as we worked to confirm a new date and details for the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Sacrament of Confirmation will take place at Parkview Chapel, Goonellabah on Sunday 7th August 2022. All Stage 2 students took a note home this week. Unfortunately, all notes from earlier in the year were lost in the flood, so if your child is in another grade and would like to receive the Sacrament this year, please contact Mrs Hague and a note will be sent home first week back next term.
Preparation for the Sacrament will be completed at school from Week 1 next term, however all candidates are encouraged and welcome to attend our weekend Parish mass.

Learning & Teaching
Kindergarten - Working hard and having fun during PE and Art
Year 1 - Publishing and Illustrating their Australian Anaimal Information Reports
Year 2 - Learning about how they can share their faith, kindess and joy with others. Busily creating graphs with data that they gathered themselves. Sharing some of the Australian Animal displays created by Year 2.
Year 3 are learning about 2D shapes. This week they made quadrilaterals out of popsticks.
Year 4 are learning about 2D shapes and how to make tesselating patterns.
Year 5 are learning how to solve word problems with a focus on multiplication and division.
Year 6 have been creating artworks and they also zoomed with St Joseph's Primary School in Gayndah to thank them for raising money for us.

Sports News
2022 Athletics Carnival
Well done to all the students that participated in our school's Athletics Carnival on Monday the 20th of June. As a school, we witnessed some of the best racing, team games and relays ever held at our school. The students displayed wonderful school spirit and sportsmanship, and I’m sure their efforts made it an enjoyable spectacle for all the families that came to watch. A big thanks to all those who assisted in the organisation of the day.

Richmond Zone Athletics
If your child was successful with a first, second or third placement in their age group for the 100m run and/or 200m run, then they are eligible to attend the Richmond Zone Athletics Carnival. The 800m run, 1500m run, Long Jump and Shot Put will see the students that came first or second in their age groups below attend the carnival.

The Richmond Zone Athletics Carnival will be held on Thursday the 28th of July. Once again finding a suitable venue has presented some challenges this year. This year the event will be held at Woodlawn. More information will be provided early next term.
Due to limited time and venue availability, the 1500m Run will be held at Hepburn Park on Monday the 25th of July at 4 pm. More information will be provided early next term.
Richmond Zone Gala Day
On Friday 19th of August, our Year 5 and 6 students will be provided with another opportunity to participate in the Richmond Zone Gala Day. This day will allow students the opportunity to participate in sports such as soccer, netball and multi-sports. I’m still awaiting further information regarding this day, but there will be a permission note ready to go early next term.
Netball Gala Day
On Thursday the 4th of August, we will send 3 mixed netball teams to a Netball Gala Day at the Lismore courts. Students that are in Year 5 and 6 have already been nominated to attend this day and they will receive a note early next term. This day is designed for children to step out of their comfort zones, learn some new skills and have lots of fun. Early next term the students will be provided with opportunities throughout the week to practice their netball skills and go over the rules.
