NATIONAL CHILD PROTECTION WEEK
National Child Protection Week will continue to embrace the overarching message that ‘Every child, in every community, needs a fair go’.
In particular, this year we will be shining a light on children growing up safe and supported.
Children and young people thrive when they grow up safe, connected and supported in their family, community and culture.
They have the right to grow up in environments that support them according to their needs, now and into the future.
This year let’s talk about how we create a supportive environment for every child.
National Child Protection Week will be looking at what works to keep children safe and supported… what children are telling us… what families are telling us… what the evidence is telling us… and how to translate this knowledge into action.
We know that too many children are not growing up safe and supported and that Child Protection systems are overloaded. There are many opportunities to change the trajectory for these children.
We can stop child abuse and neglect – and reduce its impact – by working together to make sure every child in every community has a fair go.
Why The Sunday Mass?
On Sundays we celebrate Christ's resurrection from the dead. According to the biblical story, on the seventh day God rested having completed the creation of the world. Appropriately, on the rest day of the week Christians commemorate the 'new creation': the renewal of the world through Christ's loving sacrice. Traditionally, Christians approach this day as a day of worship and celebration, resting from work and focusing on their faith community and their family.
This Sunday, take time out to give extra emphasis to this celebration, (e.g. spend time with your
children, take a walk with a friend, prayerfully review the Sunday readings).
Why go to church when I can pray alone?
'Why go to Mass when I can pray to God by myself?' some people ask. To understand the Mass we
need to understand the Church as a community, as a family. A simple analogy: Family members
come together for meals, not just for physical nourishment, but as a way of sharing life together.
The Sunday Eucharist is a bit like that for Catholics. It is the sacred meal, our 'family meal',
whereby we come together to worship God, not just for our private spiritual nourishment, but to
acknowledge that we belong to one another as God's family, that we are a people who share in the
mystery of Christ's death and resurrection.
Uniform and Student Behaviour
In recent weeks we have been reminding students about the importance of being kind, looking after each other, demonstrating respectful behaviour and the wearing of the correct school uniform. We make no apologies for having high expectations at OLHC to ensure that all students take responsibility for their chioces, actions and their personal appearance when at school, on excursions, at the bus stop or travelling to and from school.
I thank you for your ongoing support as we continue to strive to be a small school of excellence. Please contact me if you have any concerns regarding our expectations in these areas.
Father’s Day Liturgy
Father’s Day is almost upon us once again. We will celebrate with a Liturgy starting at 2:30pm where we will celebrate with joyful love and gratitude our fathers, our grandfathers, all who are like fathers to us and especially God's love for us all. The Liturgy will be followed by open classrooms and then drinks and nibbles. All are welcome to attend and enjoy what is sure to be a beautiful afternoon.
Parent Assembly
Parent Assembly - We Need your Help!
We are looking for new Parent Assembly reps to come on board! Our next meeting is next Tuesday 30th August at Invercauld House from 6pm, dinner and meeting. If you are wondering just a little what Parent Assembly is all about, then you are very welcome to come along, no strings attached.

Dreaming with our Eyes Open
What an amazing day to dream with our eyes open and celebrate Book Week.
A big thank you to all who assisted with the incredible costumes. It was a wonderful morning and so beautiful to see our parents and grandparents back in the school celebrating with us.
Mission News
Feast of the Assumption
On Monday 15th August, we celebrated the feast of the Assumption of Mary, the mother of God with a whole school liturgy. We celebrated Mary’s passing from this world into the glory of God. We remembered her deep faith and her constant trust in God.
We prayed that we are inspired by Mary’s life and see her as a model of hope and trust in God.
Thank you to our wonderful leaders of the liturgy, our liturgical dancers and the beautiful singing voices of all of our students. It is a joy to listen as we pray in song together.
Gotchya Winners
Our Gotchyas had been delayed due to a lack of prize box, but they are back and better than ever! On Friday, Year 6 helped me sort over 230 Gotchyas - a job too big to do on my own. Gotchyas are written by our students when they see someone showing the face of Jesus in our school. They are then put in the Gotchya Mail Box and a winner from each grade is drawn out of the mail box and then is announced at assembly and picks a prize! We try and make sure everyone gets their original Gotchya to take home too.

Learning & Teaching
Kindergarten have been learning how to gather, display and interpret data about themselves and their classmates.
Year 1 are excitedly writing their fractured fairytale about the Three Billy Goats Gruff, which they have worked hard to plan and edit using a storyboard.
Year 2 are learning about communication differences between today and 200 years ago. This week they made their own ink out of berries.
In Mathematics, Year 3 have been learning about different types of graphs and converting analogue and digital time.
In Science, Year 4 made their own greenhouses to test how well seeds grow.
Year 5 write reports about space phenomena and presented them to their class.
Year 6 are creating collages of the Sydney Opera House

Sports News
Year 5 and 6 Multisports Gala Day
On Friday the 19th of August, the Year 5 and 6 students attended the Multisports Gala Day. The day provided students with the opportunity to experience many different types of sports. We had a team attend the netball event, a team attend the soccer event and the remainder of the students spent the day at Hepburn Park rotating between a variety of sports.
All the students proudly represented our school, with great sportsmanship and a positive ‘have a go’ attitude.
A big thank you to Mrs Hague, Mr Denny, Mrs Hutley, Mrs Papworth and Miss Aleisha for supervising the students at each event.

School News
Congratulations to the students who have completed the Premier's Reading Challenge for 2022. The Challenge has now closed. If you are yet to add your books, please do so over the weekend so that Mrs Rose can validate your results next week.
