Term 3 Week 8 Newsletter - 09.09.2022
Principal News
Last Sunday, we celebrated and gave thanks to God for the special gift of our fathers. We pray for fathers who are living, remember fathers who have died and are grateful for special men and women in our lives who have been like fathers to us. We celebrate the love of fathers on Father’s Day and are mindful that Jesus had such great love for God, whom he called Father.
We pray that all dads, grandfathers and father figures will feel the love and gratitude for all they give us.
A Prayer for Fathers
God, bless all the fathers of the world.
Guide them to be good role models and loving to all their children.
Help them to be a father like You are.
Give them grace, strength, wisdom and love
to be teachers and guides
for the young who look up to them.
Amen
"Grief is the price we pay for love"
We are saddened at the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. We join together in remembering her lifetime of tireless service and commitment to her faith. Her Majesty was also a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Our Condolences and prayers are with her family at this sad time.
Congratulations
Congratulations to Miss Jansen on the succussful completion of her accreditation to achieve Proficiency. Elke has been working towards this accreditation for the past 18months and is now no longer considered a graduate teacher. Well done on this outstanding acheievement Elke. The smiles on the faces of the young people in your class, remind us all why we are so blessed in our vocation as teachers.
Student Attendance
Regular attendance at school for every student is essential. Student non-attendance at school places the student’s learning, social and emotional growth at risk. Thank you to our parents for the support and value you place on your child being at school each day. Regular school attendance plays a critical role in ensuring that every student has access to the same learning opportunities.
Schools in partnerships with families are responsible for promoting the regular attendance of students and for ensuring that non-attendance is addressed effectively. While families are legally responsible for the regular attendance of their children, the school, as part of our duty of care, is required to record and monitor part and whole day absences. The school has legal obligations to follow up with the family and legal departments when non-attendance becomes and continues to be a concern.
We understand that this year has brought with it many challenges (natural disasters and an increase in sickness COVID infections) however regular attendance at school is still a legal requirement. We have a significant number of students whose attendance this term is well below the acceptable level.
We ask that if your child is absent or going to be absent that you please notify the school either by email, phone call or responding to the text message that is sent by Schoolworx. An explanation does not approve the absence; it simply alerts the school of the nature of the absence.
Principal Appraisal
Thank you to those involved in my recent Principal appraisal. This is a process carried out by the Catholic Schools Office in the fifth year of a Principal’s contract. I appreciate the feedback and support provided and the whole process proved to be a valuable learning experience.
As Principal of OLHC, I am truly blessed to work with such a dedicated team of professionals who are prepared to do whatever it takes to support our children and families. The support we recieve from families is incredible and we are building a strong culture of improvement with an emphasis on student and staff wellbeing.
Mission News
Father's Day Afternoon
A huge thank you to all our wonderful fathers, grandfathers, uncles and important people who came to school and celebrated Father’s Day with us last Friday. It was a very special afternoon and a fantastic turn out!
In our liturgy, we thanked God for the love we receive from those men in our lives who are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and those who are like fathers to us. We asked for God’s blessings on all our fathers, that he gives them strength and courage, tenderness and gentleness, so that they may reflect the love God also has for us.
Thank you to our leaders who as always, read beautifully and confidently shared their faith with our community!
Sacramental Program
A reminder that our Sacramental program (Confirmation and First Holy Communion) will resume once our church building is reopened. As soon as we have a date, we will confirm our plans as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience, the wait will definitely be worth it!
