Year 5 Camp
This week the students from Year 5 attended their excursion to Camp Goodenough and it was amazing. I am so proud of our Year 5 students for the way in which they conducted themselves. We had so many positive comments from our instructors and camp organisers regarding beautiful manners, how well behaved our students were, how well they encouraged each other, listened and followed instructions. They not only represented themselves extremely well but also our school and their family.
School camps and excursions play a vital role in the development of young students. These activities promote teamwork and collaboration, helping students build social skills and friendships outside the traditional classroom setting. Exposure to new environments encourages adaptability and resilience, while also sparking enthusiasm for learning. Additionally, camps often focus on environmental awareness, physical activity, and cultural appreciation. Overall, these experiences contribute to the holistic development of students, enriching their educational journey and creating lasting memories that shape their growth and perspectives.
I would also like to thank our staff for spending time away from their own families to ensure that our students have these wonderful opportunities. Their enthusiasm and commitment in creating a safe and enriching experience for our students is so greatly appreciated. I am incredibly grateful for your hard work and passion and without your generosity of time, these opportunities for the children at OLHC would not be possible.
New Kiss and Drop
The new Kiss and Drop will be a big change from our current morning drop off and afternoon pick up routines, however, it will reduce the risk for our children entering cars, reduce the amount of traffic letting students out at the front of the school, reduce students crossing the road on their own and reduce the risk for parents trying to reverse out with students and younger siblings moving in a high traffic area.
Important points
- This will become a no parking zone between 8am-9am Monday-Friday.
- This will become a no parking zone between 2:30pm-3:30pm Monday-Friday.
- Cars will stop parallel to the kerb between these hours when picking up students.
- All parents must remain in their vehicle, keep the car running and staff will bring students to the car via the new gate. This will be a very quick turnaround to keep traffic moving.
- If the kiss and drop area is full, parents will need to go around the block and try again.
- When entering the kiss and drop area, you must come past the school first and turn left into the driveway. Please do not try and come up Dibbs street and make a right hand turn in front of buses and oncoming traffic.
- When leaving the kiss and drop area, you must only turn left onto Dibbs street to assist buses and not turn into oncoming traffic.
Our new Kiss and Drop area will commence on Monday 11th November as we are still waiting on signage.

Cyberbullying
As a parent, you play a vital role in helping your child develop digital intelligence, which encompasses the social, emotional, and practical skills needed to navigate the digital world successfully. To start the conversation about kindness, ask your child how they would like to be treated by others face-to-face and online. Have they witnessed someone being mean either online or in person? Discuss the values they should remember when they are online, such as compassion, empathy, and doing the right thing.
Take the time to talk about what is considered mean behaviour. This could include saying hurtful things, sending hurtful messages, deliberately excluding someone, spreading lies, or being unkind while playing games.
To help your child recognise if they are being mean, ask them how they would know if they are hurting someone's feelings. They may mention outcomes such as the other person being upset, telling a teacher, crying, or refusing to play with them anymore. It's important to help them understand the concept of getting personal, which involves making comments about someone's appearance, speech, race, disability, or family background. Explain why this is never acceptable.
Here are some ways you can support your child:
- Sit with them and review their online conversations, as well as their interactions with friends and family face-to-face. Discuss what they are saying and help them understand the impact of their words.
- Encourage and praise their kind behaviour at home and beyond.
- Talk about accepting differences in others and discuss strategies for dealing with people who annoy them. Openly coach them through specific situations.
- Guide your child to imagine being in someone else's shoes, promoting empathy and understanding diverse perspectives.
- Explain that there are consequences for mean online behaviour, even if it occurs outside of school hours. Emphasise that schools may intervene and address such behaviour if it is towards a school peer.
By having these conversations and providing guidance, you can empower your child to navigate the digital world with kindness and respect.

All Saints Day
November 1 is a special day called the feast of All Saints. It is the day the Church celebrates with all the people who have died and are now with God in heaven. Saints were people just like us. They felt hungry, tired, angry, and disappointed sometimes, just as we do. But the saints did difficult things even when they didn’t want to because they loved God.
Each of us has gifts that we can use to serve God and other people. The saints show us many different ways of following God. We ask the saints to pray to God for us!
A huge thank you to Mrs McCarthy, Mrs Rodda and 5P for leading our All Saints Liturgy this afternoon. It was a beautiful liturgy and reminded us that we can all be saints!
Socktober 2024
A huge congratulations and thank you to our very generous students and families! We have raised a grand total of $762.30 for the Caring Centre in Mongolia through Catholic Mission.

A Compass event will go home, and it is the parent's responsibility to confirm if their child can confidently swim 50m.
